University of Bremen

Research and applied science

The University of Bremen is located in the district Horn-Lehe and offers 12 departments for teaching to students. These areas range from natural sciences, such as biology, chemistry and physics, to social sciences, economics and law. The University of Excellence is particularly well established in the field of research and has been one of the top German universities for many years.

The University of Bremen was founded in 1971 and is thus one of the newer state universities in Bremen. It is the largest university in the state of Bremen. In 2012, the University took part in the federal and state Initiative for Excellence and emerged from it as one of eleven German universities as a University of Excellence.

Teaching at the University of Bremen comprises a total of 12 departments. The Bachelor's and Master's degrees are now predominant, gradually replacing the Diplom, Magister and state examinations. In addition to the regular teaching program, which includes e.g. lectures and tutorials, there are also virtual lectures, which enable students to learn independently and at their own pace.

The University of Bremen campus is home to research facilities and lecture halls as well as the refectory and small cafés and cafeterias. During the breaks between lectures, students can find all kinds of refreshment there. Hot meals, snacks for in-between meals and hot and cold drinks are part of the culinary selection on campus along with many other delicacies.
